Today’s Poem: “Marian Devotion”

Marian Devotion

My mother is not a club,
neither the exclusive kind
nor the sort men wield
to beat their women
into tiny boxes
of silent femininity.

My mother is the measure
of what no man can be
without grace,
what all men could be
if emptied of judgment
and imbued with the kindness,
the patience of one
who calls Himself Love.
